Bright with a deep purple hue in the glass. Lifted aromatics of cinnamon spice, damson plum, and brown sugar with a briar character that evolves in time. Medium plus in body, a savoury bitterness with an herbal edge balances the sweet cherry fruit. Prominent tannin provides a good structure and flavour length.

Medium-depth red-purple colour with a striking bouquet of whole-bunch ferment herbs, Campari/bitter Italian herbs uppermost, red fruits/raspberry as well. The wine is very fruit-sweet on ther tongue, with glycerol and succulence, then a wave of fine but drying tannins rides in. Very stylish, well balanced. To drink young or even better to cellar.

The 2022 Brini Single Site Grenache is beguiling, with notes of attar, blood, sweet tobacco (it actually reminds me of the Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille), bergamot, cinnamon stick, tonka bean and a waft of arnica. In the mouth, the wine is placid and shaped by very soft, fi ne, dusty tannins. This is a bit like a Tardis. It looks like a glass of red wine, but it smells and tastes (and feels) like a galaxy of stars. Tasted from bottle number 0441 of 1,300. 13.9% alcohol, sealed under wax and natural cork. Like maker, like wine: Rob Mack is a thoughtful, observant, precise guy, and his wines refl ect this aspect of his personality. It's a joy to behold.

It may sport a little too much stalky and spicy whole bunchy for some, but I find it very firm and pleasing. Strawberry and raspberry, plenty of white pepper and rosy perfume. It’s medium-bodied, crisp and vibrant, emery board tannin, spicy and dusty red fruits, a little aniseed, very ‘minerally’ with a long and somewhat bony and sappy finish of impeccable length. It’s a wine of very distinct personality, and while it may polarize, I reckon it’s superb. It’s kind of like a whole bunch Pinot Noir in its delivery. 95+
