Domaine Scoffit Alsace Pinot Blanc 2022
From a blend of Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois vines averaging 50-70 yo on gravelly soil covered by loess in the Harth vineyard. Fermentation and aging in stainless steel for 11 months before bottling in August of the following year. Made from yields of around 50 hl/ha this wine has striking purity, medium body and excellent length.
‘Bernard Schoffit’s bottling of Pinot Blanc is also made from old vines, with the average age of these vines now more than fifty years of age. This is made from a blend of both Pinot Blanc and Pinot Auxerroirs. The 2022 version offers up a refined bouquet of peach, fresh pineapple, a touch of papaya, a fine base of soil tones and a potpourri of fruit blossoms in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, focused and fullbodied, with a beautiful core of ripe fruit, fine soil inflection, zesty acids and lovely balance on the long, complex and gently exotic finish. 2024-2035.’ 91 points, John Gilman, View from the Cellar, July 2024.
