2021 Eisenstone Hoffmann Dallwitz Vyd Ebenezer Shiraz
The grapes for the Hoffmann Dallwitz single vineyard wine are sourced from the renowned Dallwitz Block, which was largely planted between 1888 and 1912, and more specifically rows 25-30 of the ‘younger’ 70+ year-old vines. The best parcel and barrels of the year are reserved for this release.
Deep and intense ruby colour. blueberry, vanilla pod and violet aromas. Dark fruits fill the senses, plush in texture but with a lightness of touch that belies the intensity. Subtle oak sings at the edges but the sense of place is strong with this wine. Ferrous, iodine and bloody notes are the savoury characters that really draw you in with a seamless integration of all the parts. The tannins are silken but driving, the length prodigious and pleasure off the scale. I’d be hard pressed not to drink it now but cellaring will add even more to the experience.
