Originally this wine came from the sixty-year-old Shiraz vines from Greenock that were about to be uprooted.

They were saved in the eleventh hour and we used the fruit to make this extraordinary wine.

The 2018 shows aromas of fennel, black pepper, aniseed and lifted raspberry, roasted coffee and Indian spices.

The opulent palate is full of black cherry, raspberry and dark chocolate with typical Barossa black fruits and a rich, supple mouthfeel.

Fresh acidity ensures the wine looks bright and fresh if drinking now, without sacrificing the structural components required to reward drinkers for many years to come.

Cellaring up to ten years.

Award:

95 Points - “A paucity of information accompanying the Massena wines but here fruit sourced from vineyards in Greenock, Stone Well and Vine Vale, some whole bunches, some extended skin contact and basket-pressed to used French barriques and puncheons for 18 months. Unfined and unfiltered. It's come together brilliantly. It has richness and a depth of flavour matched to a brightness and vivacity across its fuller-bodied palate. Supple, savoury tannins and just lovely fruit shining through.” Jane Faulkner, Wine Companion, 1/8/20

93 Points - “Deep and dense purple colour. Black plums, blackberry jam and iron filings, toasty oak is firm. Ripe and overt, balanced and assured. Black and red fruits allowed a voice.” The Real Review, 8/2/2020
