The Caley is the pinnacle of a long wine making journey of excellence, that rightfully honours one of Yalumba’s most adventurous sons.

A blend of Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and Barossa Shiraz, The Caley is a classic marriage of two noble varieties and two great Australian wine regions.

Deep, dense red in colour. Distinct Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon aromas: fresh, cool and refined green olive, leafiness, iodine and intriguing, fine and complex aromatics. Richness and precision, revealing refinement of Shiraz with red currant and spice. Perfectly balanced acid and tannin line sweeping through to the long finish.

Matured for 21 months in 46% new French barriques, balance in 2 year and older French barriques.

Built to spend many years in the cellar, The Caley takes time to reveal its true character. Drinking beautifully on release the wine will live on for decades in the cellar. If opened as a younger wine we recommend double decanting prior to serving.

98 points Bob Campbell Outer quote mark A blend of 74% Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon and 26% Barossa shiraz. This was my favourite. Quite perfumed with cabernet-derived cassis, mint, cedar and olive characters together with a blackcurrant bud influence. A fine-grained and powerful wine, with an impressively lengthy finish. Steely tannins offer strong support, although the wine is surprisingly good to drink now. A terrific red Inner quote mark 98 points James Suckling Outer quote mark This is a great vintage for this wine with a very fresh, attractive delivery in a full-bodied style. Ripe red plums, blackberries and cherries with a cedary, tobacco edge, purple olives and fruit-steeped roasting herbs. It has a very intense, crisply cut palate that has flavors of dark cherries, blackberries, chocolate and such attractive spice complexity. Runs long on the focused finish. Regal. A great Caley. A blend of 74% Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon and 26% Barossa shiraz. Try from 2023. Inner quote mark 96 points James Halliday Outer quote mark This is an impressive wine and an expensive one, clear of purpose, clarity, power, intensity and detail. A benchmark cabernet and shiraz meld: a blend that many Australians perceive as the homegrown quintessence. The oak cladding is salubrious. Well applied. Apparent, but not too much in lieu of the pummelling fruit: currant, dark cherry, satsuma plum and blue fruit references, brushed with five-spice, cinnamon and a gentle swathe of verdant herb before a finish marked by graphite and iodine. This is polished, sure. The tannins nicely wrought. But fresh, eminently drinkable and firmly of place, with a confident swagger and undeniable impact. Inner quote mark
